Norwich manager Chris Hughton wants to increase his striking options before the new Premier League season begins.

Reports in Italy linked Hughton with moves for Juventus’ Fabio Quagliarella and Catania’s Maxi Lopez as he looks to bolster his squad following the departures of Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson.

However, while the 54-year-old is aware of the reports, he knows how difficult completing a deal can be.

“There are players that we would have an interest in bringing to the club, but wanting to bring someone here and actually getting them is two different things,” he told The Pink Un.

“The areas that we felt we needed to improve were the offensive areas.

“We brought Ricky (van Wolfswinkel) in but on the other side of it Simeon and Holty have departed so, yes, the forward area is one we are looking to do something.”

Hughton also confirmed that Leon Barnett is likely to leave the club, with the 27-year-old defender not featuring in his first-team plans.

Norwich lost their first fixture of pre-season at the weekend, going down 1-0 to San Jose Earthquakes.
