Attila Pinter has been announced as the new Hungary coach.
Pinter, 47, takes over from Sandor Egervari, who resigned following Hungary’s 8-1 defeat to Netherlands in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in October.
The former Ferencvaros defender has enjoyed considerable success in domestic coaching, guiding Gyor to the Hungarian top-flight title last season.
And Pinter will now look to rejuvenate a national side that have not qualified for a major tournament since the 1986 World Cup and are 44th in the latest FIFA rankings.
“I think we cheated each other in the recent years,” he said.
“We targeted fake goals, after a win we thought we could beat any team, after a defeat we were the worst team in Europe.
“It is time to get real, time to make the players understand that when they put on the Hungarian shirt, they play for a whole country.”
