Inter need to be ´more clinical´ – Mazzarri

Inter coach Walter Mazzarri said his side needed to be more clinical, despite picking up all three points against Atalanta on Wednesday.

Mazzarri’s men were 2-0 winners in the Serie A clash at the San Siro, with Pablo Daniel Osvaldo’s first-half opener added to by a Hernanes goal late on.

The former Sampdoria and Napoli boss said the game could have been killed off earlier.

“We started well and created good early chances, which wasn’t easy against Atalanta, who make life difficult for everyone,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We barely allowed them anything.

“If we want to be picky, then we should’ve scored the second goal earlier and not suffered under pressure for 10 minutes.

“If we want to compete for the top then we have to be more clinical. We had so many chances to finish it off, even with a penalty, but not only that.

“When Atalanta attack en masse and leave spaces, we need to be better at finishing off the game.”

Mazzarri encouraged goalscorer Osvaldo to add to his brilliant start to his loan stint in Milan, with the Argentine netting three goals in four league appearances.

“I was pleasantly surprised by him as a person, because he had a reputation as having a tricky character, but he is great in the locker room and a fine professional,” Mazzarri said.

“In my view he just needs to work harder and be more consistent throughout the game.”

Brazilian midfielder Hernanes scored just his third goal in an Inter shirt since moving from Lazio in the January transfer window, and Mazzarri said it would do wonders for the 29-year-old’s confidence.

“I am happy for him, as he is an exemplary professional. When you score a goal it helps restore confidence, of course,” he said.
