Looking to move one step closer to a Premiership return, Inverness will travel to Ayr on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, after putting in another worrying display in their 1-1 draw at home to relegation scrappers Alloa on the final Championship outing, it has been a worrying end to the year for Ayr. Ending the campaign with just three victories in their final 13 appearances, it will be their continued struggles at Somerset Park giving boss Ian McCall the biggest headache. Failing to win any of their last three matches on home soil, Tuesday’s hosts have managed to record just a single victory in front of their own supporters since the 25th of January, an eight-match run.

As for the visitors, picking up a 1-0 win over Dunfermline over the weekend and leapfrogging Ayr to third spot, the mood in Inverness’ camp should be on a high. Securing back-to-back wins and appearing to refind their form at a crucial stage, a huge part of Caley Thistle’s recent success has come down to their performances on the road. Reaching the Scottish FA Cup semi-final last month before being knocked out by Premiership outfit Hearts, Inverness are unbeaten in their last five Championship matchups on their travels, winning four of those contests. It is also worth noting that Inverness have won all three of their matchups against Ayr this year, including a pair of victories at Somerset Park.
