Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has forgiven Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for biting his arm in the sides’ recent 2-2 draw at Anfield.
The Uruguayan received a 10-game ban and was widely criticised for his actions, but Serbia international Ivanovic stressed that he has already moved on from the incident and holds no ill feeling towards the former Ajax man.
“When it happened I was surprised and angry, but after the game I calmed down and all was forgotten,” Ivanovic told Vecernje Novosti.
“We spoke on the phone, I accepted the apology and the police did not press charges.
“It was a really strange situation. Overnight I was everywhere because of what happened even though I was only a minor figure in it. For the first time, in the news, everything was about Ivanovic.”
Liverpool have been publicly critical of the severity of Suarez’s punishment but Ivanovic feels the Football Association were right to take extra action on the forward.
The FA described a regular three-match ban for violent conduct “insufficient” due to the severe nature of Suarez’s behaviour and added a further seven matches, which will rule Suarez out of action until next season.
“They took into account his past excesses and previous punishments,” he added.
“They added everything up and reached seven games, plus the three he would have had for being sent off.”
