Jones open to second Wickham loan

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones has revealed he is keen to land Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on a temporary deal next season.

The 20-year-old scored one goal in six appearances for the Championship side last term during a one-month loan between February and March.

And, with Wickham’s future at the Stadium of Light uncertain ahead of Paolo Di Canio’s first full season in charge, Jones is open to the idea of the young forward returning.

He told The Sheffield Star: “I’m sure their new manager will want to have a look at what Connor has got.

“It is something we would be interested in if it came around, but it is far too early to even contemplate it at the moment.”

Wickham has struggled to make an impact with Sunderland since securing an £8million move from Ipswich Town in June 2011.

The England Under-21 international has made just eight Premier League starts in total for the club, and has scored only once since his arrival.

His chances of first-team action at Sunderland also appear to have been damaged by the close-season arrival of fellow forward Jozy Altidore.
