July 22nd: Saturday’s South American Accumulator – 12/1

With the return of Europe’s elite just around the corner, it will be South America’s elite that steals most of this weekend’s headlines. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a trio of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday July 22nd

BST 20:00 Confianca vs Operario

While Operario might have lost their Serie B status last season, Saturday’s guests find themselves tipped as one of the leading contenders to make an immediate second-tier return. Putting in another rugged performance last week as they picked up a 1-0 victory at home against Floresta, Rafael Guanaes’ men are in the midst of what has become an extended purple patch. Leading the chase at the top of the Serie C standings and hoping to widen their buffer over the chasing pack here, the Parana-based outfit are unbeaten in each of their last seven straight third-tier appearances. Likewise, suffering just a single loss from any of their previous 12 straight matchups – a run that stems all the way back to May 4th – Operario have continued to impress with their performances at the back. In fact, it should be noted, Guanaes’ men have shipped just a single strike on their seven-match unbeaten flurry. With their recent romp highlighted by another 1-0 victory against CSA last month, the Ghost Train should be relishing a trip to Batistao this weekend. Watching Confianca put in a nightmare display last time out as they slumped to a woeful 4-0 drumming at the hands of Brusque, the Blues have mustered just a sole Serie C victory from their previous 10 straight outings. With that extended crisis stemming all the way back to the middle of May, Vinicius Eutropio’s side have also failed to pick up a single win in front of their own supporters over the past two months.

Tip: Operario win @ 8/5

21:00 Platense vs Huracan

Missing out on what they would have billed as a golden opportunity away at Union Santa Fe last week as they eventually had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate, it is fair to say that Platense are trying to find some recent stability. Mustering just a single win from any of their last four Primera Division appearances, the Buenos Aires-based outfit will certainly be glad to make a return to home soil on Saturday night. Last seen at the Estadio Ciudad de Vicente Lopez picking up a 1-0 victory against Sarmiento Junion earlier in the month, Martin Palermo’s men have continued on a hugely impressive flurry in front of their own supporters. In fact, on a hometown purple patch that is highlighted by a stellar 3-0 romp against Racing Club back on May 14th, it should be noted that Platense have won five of their previous six showdowns in Buenos Aires. Likewise, remarkably conceding just a single strike on home soil since the end of April, Palermo’s men will now be looking to make up some ground in the Copa Sudamericana chase. Meeting a Huracan side that are at the heart of a public nightmare, the Calamares should be smelling a golden chance. In what is a woeful record on their travels, Saturday’s guests have remarkably managed to claim just a single point from any of their last 14 straight contests on the road – a run that stems all the way back to a 1-1 draw against Colon way back on February 26th.

Tip: Platense win @ 6/5

21:00 Criciuma vs Novorizontino

Although Criciuma might have been disappointed after missing out on a Serie A return last season, Saturday’s hosts appear to be breezing towards a top-four ticket in 2023. Gaining a host of praise from across Brazil’s second-tier, the Tigers have lost just one of their previous seven appearances and find just their goal difference keeping them off top spot. With the mood around the Heriberto Hulse at a continued high, Claudio Tencati’s men will be smelling the chance to make another promotion statement this weekend. Conceding only a pair of strikes in their last four outings, the former Vitoria boss has also seen his high-flying squad suffer just two defeats in front of their own supporters over the past seven months. On the flip side, while Novorizontino might still have their sights set on claiming their own top-four finish this season, Saturday’s guests are enduring what has been an extended wobble since returning from June’s international break. Despite claiming what was an essential boost against Londrina earlier in the week, the Sao Paulo-based outfit have mustered just a single victory from their previous five Serie B showdowns. It should also be noted, Eduardo Baptista’s squad have suffered back-to-back defeats on the road. Likewise, hit with a 1-0 loss when they last travelled to the Heriberto Hulse for a third-tier showdown back in June 2021, we are expecting a similar outcome here.

Tip: Criciuma win @ 15/11
