Borussia Dortmund striker Shinji Kagawa will miss three weeks of football, due to an ankle injury.

The Japan international suffered ankle ligament damage in training on Wednesday, and the club revealed on their official website he is expected to miss the upcoming Bundesliga clashes with Hertha Berlin and Hannover.

Kagawa’s injury is a blow for Dortmund, who are currently without the services of injured playmaker Mario Gotze.

The loss of Kagawa – who is tipped to return against Mainz on March 3 – is now likely to result in forward Robert Lewandowski dropping behind the strikers, and Lucas Barrios earning a recall up front.
