Blackburn boss Steve Kean has called for the club’s supporters to get behind Rovers after their 4-2 win over Swansea on Saturday.

Four goals from Yakubu powered Rovers to the win – just their second English Premier League victory of the season – at Ewood Park, but it did not stop a group of supporters from voicing their disapproval with Kean and Blackburn owners Venkys after the match.

Kean said he was disappointed with their actions, and called on them to unite as the team continues to try and battle their way out of the relegation zone.

“We know there is a group who are not particularly happy but there must be other issues because I can’t fathom how when we are leading they are chanting, but that’s their prerogative,” Kean told the BBC.

“I would like the majority of supporters to be vocal and say to the protesters, give the lads a chance.”

“We’ve got a lot of young players in the team and it can certainly affect them if there’s a little bit of negativity aimed when you’re ahead and when you’re playing well, so I hope they can bear that in mind.”

“I’m always positive and we now have a good run of games.”

“The best thing for us to do would be to pick up points, go on an unbeaten run and climb the table, and if they want to protest then, then there’s something else at the bottom of it.”

Kean hailed the effort of Yakubu, who became the first Blackburn player to score four goals in a Premier League match.

“The good thing about Yakubu is he scores lots of different types of goals, penalties, tap-ins, ones like the first one today, he’s a fantastic signing,” he said.

“But he would be the first to tell you that any striker is as good as his service and the service we are giving to him from Junior Hoilett, Ruben Rochina, and Mauro Formica is excellent.”

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers said he was disappointed with his side’s defending from set-pieces on Saturday, but is confident his team are on the right path and took a swipe at Blackburn’s style of play.

“Would we be happy to play like Blackburn? No chance,” Rodgers said. “Would I resort to smashing the ball into the box from the half-way line onwards and look for a scramble every time there’s a free-kick – no, I wouldn’t.”

“I’m very proud of the way we adapted to the Premier League and when you play like ourselves you have to defend the way you play and we will continue to do that.”

“It’s always of interest to learn from others and we will always look to learn.”

“We’ve dealt with bigger sides than Blackburn and we need to learn something from that.”
