Los Angeles Galaxy’s first win in four in MLS came as huge relief to stars Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan.

The star-studded champions remain on the fringes of the top five in the Western Conference, but went some way to arresting their sketchy form with a 1-0 win on the road at Chivas USA.

The victory took LA to fourth on 24 points, although they have played one more time than the Vancouver Whitecaps (fifth, 22 points) and two more than the Seattle Sounders (sixth, 21).

Former Tottenham and Wolverhampton striker Keane said Galaxy were lucky to score after failing to find much space in the final third.

“We certainly played better and possession-wise we dominated the game,” Keane said.

“But I don’t think we created too many chances to be honest with you. I still don’t think we are near our peak yet.

“I think we are slowly but surely getting there. But as long as you keep nicking the results we know that it will only be a matter of time before we hit top form.”

Keane also said goalscorer Gyasi Zardes was influential, after the American headed home the game’s only goal on the stroke of half-time.

“I thought he was very good and a good outlet for us,” Zardes said.

“He’s very quick and very good in the air as you have seen today.

“He has certainly grown on us with the more games he plays.

“Scoring goals and playing a lot of minutes is certainly going to help him.”

United States international Donovan said Chivas performed to the best of their capabilities, restricting LA to the lone goal.

“The win was important.,” he said.

“We have been on a streak of not winning for a while. I think we would like to do it in a bit of a better fashion, but give them credit, they are a much improved team from even a couple of weeks ago.

“They gave us a good game and we knew they would put their best performance of the year out, and they did.”
