Kompany expects Yaya Toure to sign new Man City deal

Manchester City F.C. captain Vincent Kompany expects Yaya Toure to follow in the footsteps of Aleksandar Kolarov, David Silva, and Samir Nasri and commit his long-term future to the club.

Manchester City F.C. captain Vincent Kompany expects Yaya Toure to follow in the footsteps of Aleksandar Kolarov, David Silva, and Samir Nasri and commit his long-term future to the club.

Kompany, who joined City from Hamburg in August 2008, penned a new five-year deal in the summer, and the Belgium international is delighted many of the club’s high-profile players, including Sergio Aguero, have also agreed to stay at the club.

Toure, 31, was linked with a move away from the Etihad at the end of last season, and fresh reports have suggested Real Madrid are interested in the Ivorian.

However, the 31-year-old, who is contracted to City until the summer of 2017, has insisted he is happy in Manchester, leading Kompany to believe he will sign a new deal with the reigning English Premier League champions.

“What matters most is not that I signed,” said Kompany. “It is that David Silva, Samir Nasri and Aleksandar Kolarov did the same. Now, it’s not far off for Yaya as well.

“This is a very strong sign. All of these players could play for one of the biggest clubs in the world and they have decided to have faith in City.

“I’ve had a strong relationship with City for years and the decision to extend was normal. I’m looking to the future.”

Kompany added: “I try to explain that this club is not what people think. It has much stronger foundations than it seems.

“It’s something that does not just serve the first team, but also young players in order to thrive and future generations.

“I hope it will allow children in the area to break into football.”

Schneiderlin backs Southampton to succeed after crazy summer

Southampton F.C. midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin does not believe the summer exits of Adam Lallana, Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw, and Rickie Lambert had a significant effect on the club.

The France international, 24, was one of the few key first-team players to stay at St Mary’s despite interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Although the Saints sold off a good portion of their squad, new manager Ronald Koeman did bring in the likes of Dusan Tadic, Fraser Forster, Graziano Pelle, Shane Long, and Toby Alderweireld (on loan from Atletico Madrid) in the summer.

Additionally, Koeman’s refusal to sell  Schneiderlin in the summer has proved to be an excellent decision, with the defensive midfielder having scored three goals through four league matches.

“There were questions about why the club was selling players, but you can see that they brought in some quality players and you can argue now that the team is better than last year,” Schneiderlin told the club’s official website.

“We still have some things to correct to get even better, but that will come with training this season and from the way that we’ve played in the last two games.”

Where will Southampton, currently in fourth-place, in the league table?
