Late Arsenal bid for Jonny Evans failed

The January transfer window was slightly out of character for Arsene Wenger, who brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to bolster his squad and prepare Arsenal for a tough battle of a top four spot in the Premier League table.

Interestingly however the veteran coach also attempted to bring Jonny Evans to the Emirates on deadline day, but the £12m bid fell on deaf ears at West Brom, according to Sky Sports.

Evans was absent from the Baggies side that was defeated by Manchester City last night, but reports suggest that negotiations between the two clubs were very brief, owing to the fact that Arsenal’s bid was nowhere near West Brom’s valuation of the player.

The Gunners currently sit sixth in the table, siz points behind their eternal rivals Tottenham in fifth, and they suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Swansea on Tuesday night. They also represent the worst defensive side in the top seven, having conceded 34 goals this season.
