Kenya’s AFC Leopards have beaten bitter rivals Gor Mahia to win the Peace Cup.

Leopards needed a penalty shootout to take the prize after the match ended in a goalless draw.

The shootout finished 6-5 in Leopards’ favour.

The match witnessed the two sides maintain relatively low levels of aggression, unlike a few recent derbies between two of Kenya’s greatest teams which have ended up being abandoned.

Both sides created their best chances in the first half but failed to capitalise on them with Leopards’ Victor Ochieng wasting a one-on-one chance to beat the keeper after a brilliant cross from Baraza.

Gor Mahia could have grabbed the lead had it not been for Demonde Selenga misfiring, as the two outfits went into the break goalless.

The second half was no different from the first in terms of the scoreline, forcing the match into penalties.

AFC Leopards keeper Patrick Matasi was the hero as he ensured he saved Chris Wekesa’s penalty to deny Gor Mahia the glory and give his team the trophy.
