Leverkusen keen on Alderweireld

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has been the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Kicker.

The Belgian stopper has just over a year left on his deal with Ajax and he is looking to leave the Amsterdammers for a big European club.

A number of high-profile sides have been showing interest in the Belgium international, but Ajax have yet to receive an official proposal for the player’s services.

German magazine Kicker has learned that Bayer Leverkusen are ready to step up their interest in Alderweireld as they look to reinforce their back line in the summer transfer window.

Die Werkself have stayed without Daniel Carvajal and with Daniel Schwaab also set to leave, they are desperate to lure the Belgian to Bay Arena.

Toby Alderweireld, 24, has clocked up 124 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax, scoring 7 goals, winning three league titles and a KNVB Beker trophy in the process.
