Robert Lewandowski insists Borussia Dortmund’s poor end-of-season form will have no bearing on the UEFA Champions League final.
Juergen Klopp’s side go into Saturday’s Wembley showpiece on the back of a four-game winless run, but the Polish striker insists his side will be a different prospect for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich with more to play for.
Dortmund were beaten 2-1 by relegation-threatened Hoffenheim at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, a result that sent the visitors into a play-off where they could retain their top-flight status after a poor season.
“It’s no use talking about (the Hoffenheim) game,” Lewandowski said.
“What matters now is the final and that’s what we’re concentrating on.
“Neither this game, nor the draw against Wolfsburg will be in our heads when we take to the pitch. What’s done is done.
“The final will be a totally different game, you can be sure of that.”
The Poland international scored his 24th goal of the season in the defeat to Hoffenheim and Lewandowski’s day got worse when news came through that Stefan Kiessling had scored a late winner for Leverkusen at Hamburg, to take his tally to 25 for the season and denying him the Bundesliga golden boot.
“That’s unfortunate as I would like to have won it,” the 24-year-old added.
“You never know – I might win it next season.”
