Liga MX wrap: Tigres drop points, Santos win again

Liga MX leaders Tigres UANL were held to a 1-1 draw by Guadalajara on Saturday, maintaining their unbeaten run in the Mexican top flight.

The visitors to the Estadio Universitario de Nuveo Leon took the lead on 35 minutes, when Miguel Sabah struck, and Guadalajara held their 1-0 lead at the interval.

But Ricardo Ferretti’s men fought back early in the second half, when Damian Alvarez struck in the 47th minute.

Tigres’ chances of completing a comeback victory increased when Guadalajara midfielder Patricio Araujo was given his marching orders on 69 minutes.

But the hosts could not exploit their numerical advantage, settling for a point which still extended their buffer at the top to two points after second-placed Atlas lost.

Santos Laguna made it four wins on the trot to climb to fourth place – level on 21 points with third-placed America – with a 2-1 away win at Atlas.

An Omar Bravo penalty in the 63rd minute had Tomas Boy’s side on course for victory, and top spot, but late goals to Rodolfo Salinas and Carlos Quintero stole victory for Santos.

America also lost the chance to climb up one spot to second, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by San Luis by virtue of a 90th-minute penalty.

Juan Cuevas stepped up to earn San Luis just their third point in 11 matches, after Diego Reyes conceded the spot kick and saw red for doing so.

Queretaro were the only side to keep a clean sheet on Saturday, as they earned a third straight victory with a 1-0 result over Toluca.

Pachuca climbed to fifth spot with a remarkable 2-1 win at home to Puebla, as they arrested a deficit with goals in the last two minutes of regulation time.

Tijuana salvaged a point late at home to Monterrey, as Dubier Rascos scored in the 87th minute to earn a 2-2 draw to snap a two-match losing streak.
