Benfica stormed to a 4-1 win over Pacos de Ferreira to go top of the Liga Sagres table on Saturday.
A first-half brace from Javier Saviola gave the hosts breathing space at the Estadio da Luz, with the Argentine clinching his double by sweeping Bruno Cesar’s cross home from inside the area on 43 minutes.
A Michel penalty had Pacos back in the game in the 51st minute, but the floodgates opened for Jorge Jesus’ men soon after.
Luisao’s header in the 65th minute and Nolito’s close-range finish a minute later comprehensively wrapped up the three points well before the final whistle.
Benfica moved three points clear of champions Porto on the table, on 17 points after seven games, but the defending champions have a game in hand on the league leaders.
