Gil Vicente kept their unbeaten home record this Liga Sagres season, but could not find a way to break down Beira-Mar in a 0-0 draw on Monday.

Paulo Alves’ Vicente have made a positive start to life back in the top flight after promotion from the Liga de Honra in 2010/11, having only fallen to heavyweights Porto and Sporting Braga so far this season.

After an even first half at Estadio Cidade de Barcelos, Gil Vicente began to shade Beira-Mar in the possession stakes.

But find a way through the visitors’ defence they could not, with Brazilian striker Luis Carlos spurning a handful of chances for Gil Vicente.

Beira-Mar claimed a point even after going down to 10 men with the 71st-minute dismissal of defender Joazinho, who picked up a second yellow card for a poorly timed challenge on Eder Sciola on the right touchline.

Team-mate Tiago Barros showed his judgement in the tackle was also a little off with his robust challenge on Richard moments later, but Beira-Mar were able to survive Gil Vicente’s late pressure to hold out.

Rui Bento’s men move tenth on the table with their seventh point of the season from as many matches, while Gil Vicente stay ninth.
