Liga Sagres: Match abandoned due to fog

Fog caused the abandonment of the Liga Sagres clash between Gil Vicente and Maritimo on Monday.

Neither side had managed to find the back of the net in nearly 80 minutes of football, but the descent of fog on Gil Vicente’s Estadio Cidade de Barcelos had caused the halting of play on several occasions before referee Rui Silva ruled the game had to be abandoned.

A 0-0 draw would have ended a three-match losing streak for Gil Vicente, who were promoted to Portugal’s top flight after their Liga de Honra title in the 2010/11 campaign.

Away side Maritimo had not tasted defeat since their 2-0 loss to Braga on August 21, and are just six points from leaders Porto on the Liga Sagres table.
