Ligue 1 Review: Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco relieve pressure

Two diminutive youngsters seized the headlines as PSG won 2-0 at Caen and Lyon thrashed Lorient 4-0 in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

Brazilian Lucas Moura, 22, scored a superb individual goal to put the reigning champions en route to their first victory in four matches in all competitions, while 21-year-old Nabil Fekir grabbed a brace as Hubert Fournier’s team climbed to eighth.

PSG had made their worst start to a season since being taken over by Qatar Investment Authority, and were missing injured talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, without whom they have often struggled, for the trip to the Stade Michel d’Ornano.

But Lucas took just 18 minutes to ease the tension, weaving his way around two challenges before thumping the ball home.

Marquinhos made sure of the points in the second half as PSG rose to second, three points behind Marseille.

Lyon, who made a poor start to 2014-15, are six points off the pace following their biggest league victory in over a year.

France forward Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock and Cameroonian Clinton N’Jie was also on target alongside Fekir’s double.

Monaco also eased their troubles with a deserve, albeit last-gasp, victory at Montpellier.

Leonardo Jardim’s team threatened their hosts throughout but only made the breakthrough deep into injury time, when substitute Valere Germain controlled Layvin Kurzawa’s cross and slotted home.

The result left Monaco, who have recorded three straight 1-0 wins in all competitions, 11th in Ligue 1.

Gaetan Bussmann’s stunning volley gave Metz a 24th-minute lead at Guingamp, and though the hosts tried relentlessly to get back into the game and the visitors finished it with 10 men after Yeni Ngbakoto was sent off for a second yellow card, it finished 1-0.

That elevated Metz to sixth and left Guingamp second-bottom.

First-half goals from Daniel Wass and Jonathan Mensah earned rock-bottom Evian a 2-1 win at home to fellow strugglers Lens, while 10-man Bastia held Nantes to a goalless draw.
