Liverpool keen on Uruguayan starlet; Besiktas eyeing Andrea Pirlo

Daily Mirror has suggested that Liverpool are set to make a move on Penarol forward Kevin Mendez.

The Reds first laid their eyes on the 17-year-old footballer at the Under-17 World Cup in the summer, and have since been keeping close tabs on the player.

According to Daily Mirror, star striker Luis Suarez has also urged the club to sign his compatriot, with Liverpool set to make their interest concrete in the January window.

The £3 million asking price is unlikely to be the problem, although the Reds could face stiff competition from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Kevin Mendez has yet to be handed his first team debut at Penarol, but he is, nonetheless, predicted a bright future in the game.

His suitors Liverpool currently sit four points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal, and can be backed at 7/1 to lift the league trophy.

Besiktas eyeing Andrea Pirlo

Turkish daily newspaper Fanatik understands that Besiktas are considering a bid for Juventus star Andrea Pirlo.

The Black Eagles are working hard in an attempt to seriously reinforce the playing squad and are currently in talks with Brazil star Ronaldinho.

And while they are trying to persuade the Brazilian to join the ranks at Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Besiktas officials are also hoping to lure Andrea Pirlo to Istanbul.

With the Italy international having entered the final year of his contract and yet to be offered an extension, the Black Eagles are ready to offer him an escape route from Turin.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed, but there are no doubts Pirlo would get a lucrative contract at Besiktas.

In case they fail in their attempt to sign the Italian superstar, the Black Eagles will switch their attention to Bursaspor playmaker Pablo Batalla.

Klose nears MLS switch

Lazio striker Miroslav Klose will be moving to the MLS at the end of the current campaign, according to Il Corriere della Sera.

The Germany international has long ago hinted at a possible move to the United States, but he seems to have received the first official proposal.

Namely, Il Corriere della Sera has suggested that LA Galaxy are in talks with the veteran striker over a summer move to Stubhub Center.

Klose has already rejected a new contract offer from Lazio as he wants to leave the Biancocelesti at the end of the season, with the MLS his most likely destination.

The 35-year-old joined Lazio on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2011 and has since notched 29 goals in 65 Serie A matches.

Klose has been struggling with various injuries this season, and has only managed 2 goals in 9 league appearances.
