Liverpool move to complete Szoboszlai coup as Newcastle cool interest

Liverpool are now the front-runners in the race to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, according to multiple sources. Newcastle, who were also reportedly interested in the Hungary international, have apparently cooled their interest, decisive in their stance not to pay more than their own valuation of their player.

Szoboszlai is believed to have a €70 million release clause in his contract which expires tonight (Friday, June 30th). Hence the rush to get the deal done today as Liverpool seek to add his formidable quality to their ranks.

The 22-year-old mostly operates as No.10, roaming the pitch behind a striker, but his pace, dribbling, passing and shooting skills make him quite capable of playing as a winger as well, on either flank. He is exactly the type of player Jurgen Klopp wants in his squad, following the failures of Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount.
