Macheda keen on Serie A return

The Daily Star understands that Federico Macheda is keen to secure a move back to Serie A, specifically with the club where he began his career – Lazio.

The 22 year old played for the Rome side’s youth team before securing a move to Manchester United in 2007.

Despite bursting onto the scene with a debut goal that went a long way to securing the Premier League title for United in 2009, the Italy U21 international has racked up just nineteen top flight appearances for the current champions, spending much of the last two years away on loan.

He secured a temporary move to Championship side Doncaster Rovers two weeks ago, and on his debut scored both goals in the sides 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Macheda has spent time in Italy’s top flight before, playing fourteen times for Sampdoria in the second half of the 2010/11 campaign, though he was unable to steer them away from relegation to Serie B.
