Malaysia seek Safee solution

Malaysia striker Safee Sali could move to the S.League if the crisis within the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) is not resolved soon.

The PSSI is in the midst of an issue regarding their official league, with the Indonesian Super League (ISL) – in which Safee’s club Pelita Jaya play – deemed to be unofficial.

The tenuous situation in Indonesia means the previously unofficial Indonesian Premier League is currently the league backed by the PSSI.

As it seems, Safee could be banned by FIFA for playing in a league that is not endorsed by the country’s top football federation.

The Malaysian Football Association (FAM) are closely monitoring the situation, with the prospect of losing its top striker unacceptable.

Talks of bringing him back to the M-League have been quashed due to the end of the transfer window in Malaysia’s domestic competition.

But there seems to be a likely alternative in the S.League, with Harimau Muda manager Ong Kim Swee open to bringing the player to the club.

Harimau Muda will act as a Malaysian representative team in the S-League, having joined in time for the 2012 season.

Ong Kim said the move could be useful for Safee, while waiting for the transfer window in the M-League to re-open in April.

“It’s a good idea. I have no objections if Safee wants to join us,” he told The New Straits Times.

“We can easily fit him into the team and he will get to play football while he thinks of his next move. It would be a great boost to have someone of Safee’s calibre playing with the team.”

Rumors also suggest that Safee Sali could also move to Belgian side CV Vise or A-League outfit Brisbane Roar.

Both clubs are under the ownership of the Bakrie Family, who also run Pelita Jaya.

Safee moved to Pelita Jaya in February 2011, and trialled with English Championship club Cardiff City in September.
