Manchester United keen on Napoli’s Ghoulam

We live in a footballing era in which teams, in the words of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, “buy fullbacks for the price of strikers”.

Somewhat amusingly, the Red Devils actually find themselves in need of a fullback during this January transfer window, and the Manchester club are being linked with a £53m move for Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, according to the Guardian.

But wait, didn’t the legendary Fernando Torres only cost £50m? Oh well. United are reportedly keen on offloading Luke Shaw in this window, and, given that they seem set to miss out on the most popular left back in football Alex Sandro, Ghoulam looks like the next best option.

The Algerian international is in his fifth season with Italian giants Napoli, and has established himself as one the club’s most important defenders. At 26-years of age, Ghoulam is also coming into his prime, so a move to Manchester United would be a brilliant way to take the next step in his career.
