Man United ready to do battle over Dimitri Oberlin

It is no secret that Manchester United have long been admirers of Basel youngster Dimitri Oberlin, but reports today suggest that the Premier League giants will face competition to acquire the forward’s signature. According to the Mirror both Juventus and Real Madrid have expressed their interest in the Swiss starlet, who is currently on loan from Red Bull Salzburg.

Oberlin has quickly progressed through the Switzerland internal setup at various youth levels, and the expectation is that the forward will soon make the step up to the senior team. The youngster has already impressed for Basel in the Champions League, despite only being 20-years of age, and it is little surprise that he has caught the eye of some of Europe’s top clubs.

Manchester United reportedly tried to sign Oberlin in 2014, but the wonderkid rejected the Premier League club, worrying that he would be resigned to a place in the reserves or on the bench. Despite his meteoric rise it is difficult to see how that would be any different now, especially with both Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford already at United.
