Manchester City 2/7 to beat Basel in Champions League clash

Competition: Champions League
Market: Manchester City to beat Basel
Odds: 2/7 @ Bet 365

With the treble still very much on the cards for the Blue half of Manchester, Pep Guardiola’s high-flying Manchester City moved one step closer to lifting the Premier League trophy last weekend, now the Spanish boss will not settle for anything less than another professional performance against Basel in Midweek.

Now mathematically just four games away from lifting the Premier League title, arguably England’s greatest ever side managed to breeze past the defending champions last Sunday as they secured a 1-0 win and moved onto 78 points, 16 points ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United. Winning their last three matches on the bounce, and without conceding a single goal in return, Guardiola will be looking for a similar performance to the one that put on in Switzerland a fortnight ago. When the two sides met in the first leg last month, a rampant City secured a 4-0 win and have all but cemented their spot in the quarter-finals.

As for Basel, Raphaël Wicky would have been having sleepless nights thinking about his side’s trip to the Etihad. Although Basel may sit second in the Super League table, the Reds have endured a tough season in Switzerland and although they may have two games in hand, they’re already chasing down a 13 point deficit to runaway league leaders Young Boys. As for their recent form, since shipping four against City, Basel have lost their last two outings, they have also now failed to score in four out of their last five games.
