Manchester City agree £44.5m fee for Fred

The two Manchester clubs have not only been competing for the Premier League title this season, but also for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, and it seems that City have managed to win the race for his signature, according to the Express.

The league leaders have reportedly agreed a £44.5m fee with the Ukrainian club for the Brazilian, who has established himself as a key man in the heart of the Shakhtar midfield over the five seasons he has spent at the club.

City currently utilise Fernandino in the deep midfield role, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva ahead of him, but the former is rumoured to be leaving in the summer, and could well be replaced by Fred.

Manchester United had also been interested in the midfielder, and they look set to lose both Michael Carrick to retirement and Marouane Fellaini to an expired contract. Jose Mourinho will thus be disappointed that he seems to have missed out on Fred.
