Aston Villa striker Andreas Weimann says his side do not fear Manchester City ahead of Saturday’s trip to face the Premier League champions.
The Midlands outfit are currently 17th in the Premier League, having endured a difficult start to life under new manager Paul Lambert.
But following his two-goal performance in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United, Weimann says that the Villans are full of confidence as they visit the Etihad Stadium.
“We don’t have fear and we shouldn’t have. The last few weeks, we’ve got confidence because we’ve won a couple of games,” the 21-year-old told reporters.
“You’ve seen the way we played against Manchester United. At the moment we think we can take on anyone and at Manchester City we’ll be the same.”
Villa have already beaten City away from home this season, posting a 4-2 victory in the League Cup, and Weimann is hoping for a repeat on Saturday.
“We went there in the cup and got a win. It’s going to be a really hard game but after this performance we’ll go there with a lot of confidence,” he said.
“I’m sure that if we play like that we’ve got a chance of getting something.
“The gaffer said after the United game if we keep playing like that we’ll get results, even against the top teams.”
