At the end of December, Napoli confirmed that they had reached a mutual agreement with Mario Rui for his contract to be terminated. The 33-year-old defender has since been a free agent, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he’s been approached by FC Dallas over the possibility of signing for the MLS side.
Rui’s contract with Napoli was devised to last until the summer of 2026, but as he fell completely out of favour with head coach Antonio Conte, it made sense for both parties to part ways. The Serie A leaders have thus been freed from the obligation of paying his wages, and the Portuguese left-back is able to seek regular game-time elsewhere under his own terms.
