Marquinho loaned to Roma

Roma have signed Brazilian wing-back Marquinho from Fluminense on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The transfer has been confirmed on the official Serie A website.

Roma were understood to be keen to add a left-footed midfielder to their squad, and were previously linked with Groningen star Dusan Tadic.

However, they shifted focus to Marquinho after having their interest in Serbian Tadic rebuffed.

Marquinho, 25, who can play both as a wing-back and in midfield, started his professional career with Palmeiras, moving to Botafogo and Figueirense before joining Fluminense in 2009.

He had since developed into a key player at Flu, and has now earned himself the opportunity to impress at the Stadio Olimpico.
