Marseille president slams PSG

Marseille president Vincent Labrune said Paris Saint-Germain remain unable to challenge his club’s class.

Since the investment of the Qatar Sports Group, the Parisians have been linked with a host of high-profile footballers from across Europe, but Labrune believes their new-found riches mean little.

“We’re not going to tell stories. In France, there is one big club, not two, and it is Olympique Marseille,” he told So Foot.

“PSG has spent hundreds of millions of euros on transfers this year, that is to say more than 10 times than us.”

“However, when I watch my team and their team I say to myself: ‘If we hadn’t blown the first part of the season, we would match PSG’.”

Labrune went on to mock the club’s structure, saying that Paris Saint-Germain are: “A Real Madrid who plays in the French League.”

However, Labrune concedes that Carlo Ancelotti’s side will be able to compete in Europe in years to come, but that does not preclude his team’s chances of competing.

“PSG will probably make a great team at a European level, we will undoubtedly have a more French team, but that does not mean that they will have beaten us in advance.”

PSG are second place in Ligue 1 on 52 points with Marseille six places behind on 39.
