Enjoying by far their brightest spell of the season, a resurgent Melbourne City side will travel to the Central Coast Stadium on Wednesday morning.

Starting with Paul Oken’s struggling Central Coast side, with the Mariners coming off the back of a 3-2 loss away at Wellington Phoenix last time out, Wednesday’s hosts are almost universally tipped to pick up the wooden spoon this season. Still looking for their first win of the new campaign and enduring a 10-match losing run, it has been their woeful defensive record that has been the Mariners’ biggest downfall this season. Now shipping 12 goals in their last three A-League outings, no team in Australia’s top-tier hold a worse defensive record. It is also worth noting that Oken’s side recorded just one home win in 2018.

As for the visitors, in stark contrast to Central Coast, Melbourne couldn’t be enjoying a brighter run of form. Picking up a 1-0 win over title contenders Brisbane Roar last week, the Blues are unbeaten in their last five and have won four of those appearances. One area that will be impressing former Manchester United reserve team boss Warren Joyce will be his sides recent performances on the road. Melbourne have won both of their last two matches away from AAMI Park and have now gone over 250 minutes without conceding an away goal.
