Ghana captain John Mensah suffered a hamstring injury during the opening game against Botswana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Lyon defender, who will miss the next two matches after receiving a red card in matchday one, could not train with the Black Stars on Wednesday, team doctor Percy Annan announced.
“We will take John Mensah to the hospital this afternoon (Wednesday) for MRI scan to find out the severity of the injury,” Annan told the Ghana FA website.
“He has some pain in this lower left thigh and that is why he is not training today.”
Mensah played through the pain during the match against the Zebras before he was sent off.
The 29-year-old scored the only goal of the game after 25 minutes before leaving the pitch.
Ghana’s next game is against Mali on Saturday.
