Michu talks up Anfield experience

Michu is looking to spoil former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers’ reunion with his old squad and beat Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.

The Swans go to Anfield hoping to spring a surprise by defeating the current holders, who also feature one of the Welsh side’s stand-out midfielder from last season – Joe Allen.

The Spaniard was brought in to soften the blow of Allen’s departure, but has since gone on to establish himself as the club’s top goalscorer so far this season and wants to prove himself still further by knocking out Liverpool on Wednesday and win the trophy on February 24.

Michu told the club’s official website: “When I was growing up, I heard a lot of stories about Anfield and the atmosphere during games.

“It is a special atmosphere and I’ve always thought about what it would feel like being part of the opposition side that played there. Hopefully I’ll get that chance on Wednesday night.

“It would be great to win there and create history for the club.”

While Michu was full of praise for Anfield as one of the more traditional grounds in this country, he admits the prospect of playing at one of the newest in the form of Wembley is even more exciting, should his team progress that far.

“Of course, to play at Wembley would be amazing, but that’s a long way off at the moment,” he said.

“But I am yet to win a trophy in my career, so to win this competition would be very special myself and the club.”

The trip to Anfield will also allow Michu the chance to see an old friend for the first time since leaving Rayo Vallecano in the summer as he comes face-to-face with fellow Spaniard Daniel Pacheco.

The Liverpool forward spent a spell on loan at Vallecano last season and is likely to get an appearance in a largely second-string side against the Swans.

“I know Daniel very well from his time on loan at Rayo,” Michu said.

“He is a really good guy and a talented player. We haven’t played against each other in the past, but hopefully we will get that opportunity on Wednesday.

“We have spoken to each other in the last few days about the game, and everyone is really looking forward to it.”
