(GSM) – Mido has set his sights on a return to his former club Ajax. The Egyptian striker said he has been approached by Ajax coach Martin Jol, who was his coach at Tottenham Hotspur, and hopes that a return will become reality.

26-year-old Mido joined Ajax in 2001 and left the club after 40 league matches in which he scored 21 goals. After that he played for Celta de Vigo, Olympique Marseille, Roma, Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic before returning to Zamalek where he also started his career.

The attacker has been targeted by Hull City, who already signed Amr Zaki from Zamalek earlier this week, but he prefers a move to Ajax.

“I’m 90 per cent certain that I will leave Zamalek before the closure of the transfer window,” Mido told Modern Sports.

“Hull have been talking to me for a month now and another English club, who I can not name at the moment, are also interested.

However, Mido would rather return to the Dutch Eredivisie, he said. “This club, who have a great history, lie in the top half of the table and will table an official bid to sign me within two or three days. But they don’t play European football, Ajax does.

“Ajax coach Martin Jol, who was my manager at Tottenham Hotspur, discussed the possibility of me joining his side.

“I prefer to join Ajax, where I will have a chance to feature in the Europa League.”
