Former Tottenham, Ajax and West Ham striker Mido has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 30.
The Egyptian forward – who most recently played for Championship club Barnsley – made his decision to walk away from the game public on Tuesday.
After stepping down the football pyramid to join Barnsley, Mido struggled for fitness and played just once before being released in January.
“Today I announce that I’m quitting football,” Mido posted on Twitter.
“I want to thank all those who supported me during my football career, especially Egypt fans.”
Mido played for 11 different clubs during his career, but failed to established himself during stints in Belgium, Holland, Spain, France, Italy and England.
His most prolific spell was a two-season stint at Ajax, where he scored 21 goals in 40 Eredivisie appearances.
Mido scored 11 goals in the 2005-06 Premier League season for Tottenham in 27 games, but bagged just two more strikes in 17 subsequent appearances.
Other notable clubs he played for included Marseille, Roma, Middlesbrough and Wigan, while he scored 20 goals in 51 appearances for Egypt, as he helped them to victory in the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations.
