Diego Milito hopes that Diego Forlan will not leave Inter this summer after only one season at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The Uruguay international joined the Nerazzurri from Atletico Madrid in 2011, but has failed to make an impact at the Serie A side so far.

Forlan has been linked with a move away from Inter, but team-mate Milito wants the Uruguayan to give it another year to prove himself in Italy.

“I don’t know whether he will stay, but I hope that he’s not leaving the club because he’s a real champion,” Milito said.

“It has been an unfortunate season for him with a lot of physical problems, too. Something similar happened to me the year before. It’s not easy to come here from the Spanish league and prove your worth right away.”

The Argentine went on to discuss the possible arrival of Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa, as well as Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli.

“Rodrigo is a great attacker who can play as a target man and as support striker. He could even start out wide. He’s incredibly dangerous in one-on-ones,” he said.

“Pocho (Lavezzi) is very strong and has already shown what he can do. He’s a real champion. It’s just rumours for now, but I would be pleased if he did join Inter.”
