MLS Western Conference leaders FC Dallas have notched their ninth match without defeat after a 2-1 victory over DC United.

Jamaican midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson struck the winner for Dallas with 13 minutes remaining to keep the Texan side six points clear of second-placed Portland Timbers at the top of the conference.

DC travelled to Dallas having lost their past six games in the MLS but almost took the lead in the ninth minute when Casey Townsend hit the post.

Instead it was the home side that opened the scoring two minutes later with Eric Hassli holding off his defender before feeding Jackson Goncalves and the Brazilian smashed the ball into the top corner of the net.

The visitors equalised just before the break when Dwayne De Rosario squeezed his free-kick through a sea of legs and past Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz’s left hand but the home side wrapped up the three points when Watson bundled the ball into the net from a 77th-minute corner.

Dallas rose to 24 points thanks to Saturday’s triumph, staying two wins clear of Portland after the Timbers thumped Chivas USA 3-0.

Portland moved into second position in the Western Conference table ahead of Real Salt Lake, who lost 3-2 to Montreal Impact.

In the Eastern Conference, New York Red Bulls took first position from Houston Dynamo after a 1-1 draw away to New England Revolution.

The Revolution took the lead in the 54th minute but the visitors hit back straight away through Lloyd Sam and held on to leapfrog Houston, who lost 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City.

In other results, Seattle Sounders crushed San Jose Earthquakes 4-0, Philadelphia Union overcame Chicago Fire 1-0, Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 and Colorado Rapids won 2-0 against Columbus Crew.
