Lamar Neagle has scored his fourth goal in five games to cap off Seattle Sounders’ impressive 3-2 comeback win over Vancouver Whitecaps.

Seattle led early against the Whitecaps when Andy Rose slotted a ninth-minute goal but Vancouver stunned the home crowd with two goals in the first half to lead at the break.

Brazilian forward Camilo Sanvezzo scored with two headers, taking advantage of lax marking by the Sounders’ defence on both occasions.

But in an end-to-end battle, the hosts equalised with 21 minutes remaining after Vancouver defender Greg Klazura brought down Neagle in the penalty area and Servando Carrasco slotted the ball from the spot.

Having wrenched the momentum out of the Whitecaps’ grasp, Seattle pushed on and in the 81st minute Rose slid the ball to Obafemi Martins on the right-hand side of the penalty area and the Nigerian forward cut back to Neagle, who side-footed home from a metre out.

The victory took Seattle to fourth in the MLS’ Western Conference standings, while their Cascadia Cup rivals Vancouver remain seventh.

While the Sounders’ win on Saturday was their second in a row, Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid will be concerned by his team’s defending as Sanvezzo was left alone twice in the first half for maximum punishment.

The 24-year-old Brazilian peeled off at the back post to nod the ball home just after Rose had given the hosts the lead, while Sanvezzo produced a diving header in the 26th minute to put the Whitecaps in front.

In Chicago, the Fire came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Portland Timbers, who notched their 12th-consecutive game unbeaten.

Portland went 2-0 up in the 58th minute when Ben Zemanski scored but Chicago fought back to salvage a point at home thanks to strikes from Mike Magee and Daniel Paladini.

In other MLS results, Real Salt Lake thumped Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 and New England Revolution played out a scoreless draw with DC United.
