Monchi reveals failed Barcelona bid for Mahrez

AS Roma sporting director Monchi has moved to reveal that Leicester City had rejected offers from both the Giallorossi and Barcelona for star player Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian was top of the list to replace Mohamed Salah last summer, but the Stadio Olimpico outfit eventually failed to reach an agreement with the Foxes.

It seems that Barcelona also had a bid rejected for Riyad Mahrez, according to transfer guru Monchi.

“We wanted a forward who could replace Mohamed Salah and we thought about Mahrez,” Monchi told El Mundo Deportivo.

“However, if the signing wasn’t completed, it’s because Leicester didn’t want to sell. It’s not an excuse, since they also said no to Barcelona.”

Riyad Mahrez has done fairly well this season, having managed 2 goals and 4 assists in 11 Premier League fixtures.

His suitors AS Roma sit five points behind Serie A leaders Juventus, but with a game in hand, and they are 17/1 chance to lift the league title.
