Mosimane confident of keeping South Africa job

South Africa boss Pitso Mosimane believes Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone will not decide his future.

According to the SABC, Mosimane says that his future cannot be determined by a single match because he has already submitted his ‘Vision 2014’ to the South African Football Association.

Saturday’s result will determine if South Africa qualifies for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Mosimane has enjoyed a fruitful tenure since taking over the coaching reins from Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira last August.

He has turned Bafana into a formidable team that has rocketed up the FIFA rankings and registered historic victories against seven-time African champions Egypt, as well as Ghana.

But South Africa’s Cup of Nations qualification was cast into doubt following last month’s away loss to Niger, and they must defeat Sierra Leone and have other results go their way to guarantee their place at next year’s tournament.

“I gave Vision 2014 and I have always called it Vision 2014 when I was appointed, it was not Vision 2012 or 2011,” Mosimane said.

“The future is bright, there’s 2012 (Cup of Nations) and we believe we will be there. There’s 2013 Cup of Nations we are hosting, there’s 2014 World Cup, there’s 2015 Cup of Nations.”

When he was given the job, Mosimane was tasked to qualify South Africa for the next two Afcon tournaments and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“I don’t coach short term, I don’t coach to win a match. I coach long term and it has been in my philosophy of football,” he said.
