Mourinho hopeful of Cole stay

Jose Mourinho would like Ashley Cole to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, but believes he may be persuaded to move to the MLS, Sky Sports understands.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season, having spent the past eight campaigns with the Blues.

During his time with the West London club, Cole has won the Premier League title, four FA Cups, the League Cup, the Champions League and the Europa League while individually he has twice been named Player’s Player of the Year.

Mourinho has confirmed that the 33 year old has got a future under him, despite being used sparingly this season.

However, the fact that he is no longer guaranteed a starting berth may sway him towards the exit door, with America strongly touted as his next possible destination.

Having missed the Blues’ past four matches, Cole will be hoping for a recall against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon, where Chelsea can be backed at 1/4 to take all three points.
