Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has warned John Terry that he is not guaranteed a future at the club.

Terry was Mourinho’s captain during the Portuguese’s first spell at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea won the Premier League twice.

However, Mourinho insisted that all of his squad member must earn their place in his first season back in the Premier League.

“He’s not safe, and he knows he’s not safe,” Mourinho said of Terry.

“The only thing he knows is safe is our friendship, but professionally, nobody’s safe.

“I know he’s a very good player, but he must prove himself like everyone else.”

At the other end of the pitch, Mourinho is confident that he will get the best out of Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

The former Liverpool man has yet to hit the heights expected of him when he joined for £50million in 2011.

“I think I know Fernando quite well in terms of a player,” he added.

“I think I know the best way for a team to play to try to get the best out of him, so I will try to help him, the same way I try to help other people.”
