Moyes welcomes new boy to Merseyside

Everton manager David Moyes sees plenty of himself in new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers was named as Kenny Dalglish’s successor after guiding newly-promoted Swansea City to a 12th-placed finish in their maiden season in the top flight.

The Swans’ impressive passing game under his stewardship earned the 39-year-old the acclaim of his peers, and ultimately saw him claim the Anfield hotseat.

And Moyes, who has faced four different Reds managers in his 10-year spell at Goodison Park, said his latest opponent is at a point in his career which he once faced.

“When I took over at Everton I was certainly young and inexperienced as far as the Premier League went,” he told the club’s official website.

“The managers I was facing at Liverpool have been incredibly experienced – European champions and top, top managers.

“And the new manager at Liverpool is a top manager as well – but young now – and probably in his own way a little inexperienced a bit like I was when I started at Everton.

“But Brendan did a great job at Swansea and more than deserves his chance at the top end.”

Rodgers will begin his Liverpool tenure with a trip to West Brom on August 18, whilst Everton host last year’s runners-up Manchester United.
