Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has confirmed Arjen Robben will not play against Moldova due to a persistent groin problem.
The 27-year-old has been afflicted by an inflammation of the pubic bone for several weeks now, an injury which has forced him to sit out a number of matches for both club and country.
On Monday, the Bayern Munich winger said he was genuinely concerned at the length of time he has been unavailable.
However, Van Marwijk is hoping to have the player ready for the game against Sweden next Tuesday.
“Robben will remain with the squad and I am hoping he can play against Sweden,” van Marwijk told NUsport.
Meanwhile, AC Milan midfielder Mark van Bommel has been passed fit to play on Friday.
The captain has recovered from a knee injury he sustained on Tuesday and was able to train with the rest of the team.
Netherlands are already through to Poland and Ukraine and currently lead Group E.
