New Fulham owner Shahid Khan has insisted manager Martin Jol will receive his full backing.

The Pakistani-American businessman completed his takeover of the London club last week, bringing Mohamed Al Fayed’s 16-year stint at the helm to an end in the process.

And, despite Fulham enduring a disappointing end to the 2012-13 campaign in which they won just one of their last eight games, Khan will support Jol next term.

“I am going to Costa Rica this week and I’m planning on spending some time with Martin Jol. He’s had a plan laid out and my goal is to support that fully,” he told talkSPORT.

“At this point the philosophy I have, which has worked for me, is to empower people, give them the resources then hold them accountable.

“Martin has got a great reputation and I’m looking forward to meeting him and goal is to support him. At the moment (his job is safe), absolutely. We want to support him.”

Khan, who has owned NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars since 2012, also refused to make predictions regarding Fulham’s prospects under his stewardship.

“I think this is a time when, quite frankly, you don’t want to make rash, crazy promises. The most important thing is that we have to secure something which is sustainable,” he added.

“A goal at this point would be finishing in the top half and then after that being back in (European competitions) would be wonderful.”

Fulham finished 12th in the Premier League last term.
