Newcastle have distanced themselves from reports that Mick Harford is set to join the club’s backroom staff.

It emerged on Sunday that Harford, a former Newcastle player, might be in line to link up with director of football Joe Kinnear at St James’ Park, with the two having played together at Wimbledon and worked alongside one another at Luton and Nottingham Forest.

Harford, 54, is first-team coach at Millwall and made over 600 appearances during his playing career.

Prior to that, Harford was assistant manager at MK Dons under Karl Robinson.

Kinnear returned to Newcastle in June, four years after he left the club following health issues.

A spokesperson for the club offered no comment when contacted by OMNISPORT.
