Newcastle interested in Barcelona goalkeeper

Newcastle United, who were promoted to the Premier League just last season, are now reportedly targeting Barcelona shot stopper Jasper Cillessen, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

The news comes despite the good form of current starting Magpies keeper Rob Elliot, who has kept three clean sheets so far this season and played every minute of the Premier League campaign.

Meanwhile Cillessen has yet to feature in La Liga for the Catalan super club, though they are well known for rotating their keepers between league and cup competitions. The 28-year old made the move to Barcelona in the summer of 2016 as a replacement for Claudio Bravo, who now warms the Manchester City bench.

Reports suggest that the Dutch keeper is keen on a move away from Spain in order to secure himself some more consistent game time, and that fact alone will certainly give Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez some hope as he prepares a potential bid for the shot stopper.
