Newcastle keen on Deeney to end goal scoring woes

You have to give a fair bit of credit to Newcastle United, and in particular to manager Rafa Benitez. Despite being in the midst of a takeover bid and a change of ownership, the Magpies have still managed to climb to 13th spot in the Premier League table after 22 games.

Unfortunately their position looks precarious, especially when you consider that they are just two points above the relegation zone. Their problem all season has been scoring goals, with just 20 in their favour during this campaign, so it is little surprise that Benitez is in the market for a replacement.

Troy Deeney is the man at the top of Newcastle’s list, according to the Sun, and hopefully the player to end their struggles in front of goal. Unfortunately the big striker has bagged just two goals in 13 appearances for Watford this season, which isn’t a hugely inspiring tally.

Regardless, a shake-up amongst the forwards could have a positive impact, and bring the best out of both Deeney and current star striker Dwight Gayle.
